"Here
is my servant whom I have chosen..." Matthew
12:18a
Have
you ever really comprehended that the sovereign God of the universe
was a servant? What a paradox. The Lord of the universe, from exalted
heights to unspeakable depths He came to save all of mankind. Yes,
Christ came to be a servant. In the Gospels, we never find Him
pursuing His own interests. His entire life was for others. The
Apostle Paul expressed it this way:
-
...but
made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness. And
being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became
obedient to death-- even death on a
cross!
Philippians
2:7,8
Like
many of us, even the disciples struggled with recognition, position
and promotion. But the Lord formulated the standard for Christian
living. "Whoever wants to be great among you must be your
servant." (Matthew
20:26) This is certainly not a popular theme in today's
indulging society centered around pleasures, possessions and success.
Servanthood becomes the terms of discipleship and those who would
qualify as saints must becomes servants.
If
Christ, Lord of the universe, became a servant for us, can we do any
less for Him?
