The reason the Gospel is God's saving power is expressed in
Romans 1:17 ..."For (Because) in the gospel a righteousness from God is being revealed..." This "righteousness of God" can be thought of in three interconnecting ways. First, as a divine attribute, God is revealed as Judge of all the earth and will do right. His own personal righteousness is seen in the cross of our Lord Jesus. Throughout Romans, Paul defends this righteousness of God. Secondly, as a divine activity, the righteousness of God comes to our rescue in salvation. John Ziesler has said "..salvation is the form that God's
righteousness..takes." Finally, as a divine achievement, a righteousness from God is objective in the sense of bestowing on us a righteous status. It is by this status that we can
approach a holy God through the blood of His Son, which is revealed in the Gospel and bestowed freely on all who trust in Christ.
In Christ,
