From the June, 1998 edition of The Doulos monthly newsletter

by Tim Abel

Have you ever sat quietly on your porch or in front of a window while it rained? Have you ever taken a moment to listen to the rain and to feel the gentle, refreshing breezes that accompany the rain?

In Deuteronomy 32:1-2 we see that God desires that His teaching would fall like rain in our lives, that His Word would descend like dew on each one of us. He desires that we would be like the new grass and tender plants as His abundant Word showers down upon our lives. Why? So that we can see the dirt and grime of this world washed away. So that His Word can daily renew us, refresh us, and nourish us. So that we may grow closer to Him.

God's desire is for us to grow. He has abundantly provided for that growth if only we will daily sit quietly before Him and allow Him to nourish us.

Please take a few moments to sit quietly before God. Ask Him if your relationship with Him is what it should be. Let him draw you even closer this summer. It would truly be sad if the only rain falling in our lives was the kind that makes the grass grow. MAKE IT YOUR GOAL TO GROW AS MUCH IN CHRIST THIS SUMMER AS THE GRASS IN YOUR YARD GROWS.

In Christ,

Tim Abel
