I
never cease to be amazed at the amount or ingenuity of deceptive advertising
and solicitation in the world today. A
good example came to my attention a few weeks ago via our mail carrier.
While opening the mail I discovered an envelope proclaiming that I was a
sweepstakes winner of over $1,000,000! Imagine
my joy until I discovered that to qualify for the opportunity to receive my
million, I had to buy a subscription to some magazine.
I had about as much chance of winning a million as a snowball has in hot
water. Most of us have answered
the telephone to have a pleasant voice inform us that we have been selected to
receive free windows, basement waterproofing, or a vacation to some exotic
island, only to find that there are just a few small costs involved that often
become extremely expensive. Hopefully
we realize, before we experience the embarrassment and pain of being duped by
bogus free offers, that very seldom does anything come without cost.
It’s
truly amazing then that the greatest gift of all, salvation, is absolutely
free! There are no strings
attached and it couldn’t be purchased even if we had all the money in the
world. The cost was prepaid years
ago on the cross at Calvary and is available to all who ask.
Isn’t it marvelous that we worship a God that loves us so much that,
even though we’re undeserving, He wishes for none of us to perish?
Isn’t it amazing that He provided for us a Savior as an atonement for
our sin? Isn’t it wonderful that He has issued an open invitation to come to
Him? His blessings, to all that
receive them, make us richer than a millionaire and our eternal destination
exceeds the most exotic island we could ever imagine!
Wherever
you are while reading these words it is not by accident, because God makes no
mistakes. If you have never
accepted His invitation, I would like to encourage you to close your eyes, open
your heart and accept the life-changing, life-saving free gift He has for you.
Come,
all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come,
buy and
eat! Isaiah
