Setting
Goals - Why?
All through life one is setting goals -
learning to tie your shoes, graduating from high school, getting a job, etc.
Presently, at my age, it is being able to touch my toes. By no means are goals
bad. We should be working toward something. Goals help motivate us and give us
a purpose for living.
The concern one should have is what is your reason for the goal. Often the
reason will determine the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of reaching the goal.
I don't want to over simplify, but we do many things for the wrong reason: for
parents, for friends, for acceptance, for oneself, etc. If our goals are not
God-centered, then we are missing the true joy and success that only our Master
and our Lord can provide.
The Apostle Paul always and only wanted to be in God's steps. He wanted to do
whatever the Lord wanted of him. (Romans
12:1 - To offer your body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to
God. This is your spiritual act of worship.)
We are His. He made everything. For these reasons God has the right to do with
us what He wants. We know God is a selfish God. His first commandment - Exodus
20:3 states, "Thou shall have no other gods before Me. You shall
make no idol to worship." He is also loving, allowing us to have a
free will. So, as you look at your goals, who or what is the reason you strive
to reach them? If God isn't the purpose, then take time to ask Him for
direction in your life as I do in mine.
If we are to find true satisfaction in our lives, we must make it God's will
for us. For His direction can lead us to real goals in our lives.
May God bless each of us as we try to accomplish His goal in our lives.
In
Him,
Pat
